Healthy Strawberry Banana Milkshakes
I've always had a bit of a thing for milkshakes. One of my roommates in college shared this love, and thankfully (or not so thankfully) there was an In-and-Out just down the road. During our high stress weeks of papers and tests, there were about three or four late-night runs (a week) for the comforting cheeseburger, fries, and Neapolitan shakes.
But then In-and-Out decided to put the calorie count on their menu.
Seriously? Seriously. Why would that ever be a good idea?
Thanks, In-and-Out, for telling me what I sort of already knew but was trying to forget. And since then, I've been wary about milkshakes because drinking your calories is pretty depressing. I tend to splurge every few months on a milkshake and that's it.
Now that summer is coming closer, I've been craving milkshakes. I decided to try out a healthier version, and let me tell you, I am a big fan.
Let me clarify. If you drink this side by side with a real milkshake, I'm sure you can probably taste the difference. I could, but then again, I'm a milkshake connoisseur, so maybe you won't because this is thick, creamy, and heavy on the strawberry banana flavor combo.
However, regardless, these are amazingly delicious and milkshake-esque. A perfect pick-me-up without the guilt!
Recipe: Two 8 oz glasses
2-3 large frozen bananas (trust me--peel the bananas first, then freeze them)
8-10 strawberries, sliced in half
1/4 c milk, almond milk, or coconut milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Perhaps the easiest recipe ever, all you need to do is blend the bananas, strawberries, vanilla, and milk together to form a thick, creamy and delicious milkshake.
