Sea Salted Nutella Peanut Puppy Chow

Let me tell you something.

Puppy chow is really good. Like, really good.

Maybe I'm a little late to the party, but rice cereal coated in some sort of chocolate mixture and covered with powdered sugar is a little bit of sweet Heaven. I mean, I've heard about puppy chow, or muddy buddies as it's also known as, but I don't know if I've ever actually tasted it.

I know. It's like I haven't lived. But now? Oh, I am a big believer in all things puppy chow. Cue The Monkees because that is exactly the tune you'll be whistling once you taste this addicting, perfectly acceptable snack.

And no, I did not start with the original puppy chow, which I do believe is peanut butter and chocolate. If that's not the original, then let's just say I didn't start my introduction to puppy chow with a basic flavor combination (although, peanut butter and chocolate is a classic combination I adore so I'm sure that'll be happening soon).

Instead, I went big. I dove in head first by using Nutella, sea salt, and honey roasted peanuts.

I just couldn't help myself. But, I swear, I didn't polish all of this off in one sitting. Was I tempted? Oh yeah. But I forced some restraint, stored it in an air tight container, and there is actually still some left. It's a proud moment.

Recipe: Makes about 4 cups

1/4 c butter (1/2 stick)
1/2 c Nutella
1/4 tsp sea salt
1/2 c honey roasted peanuts
1/2 c salted peanuts
3 c rice Chex cereal
1 c powdered sugar

In a small saucepan, melt the butter and Nutella over low-medium heat, stirring constantly. Once smooth, sprinkle in the sea salt, and remove from heat.

In a large mixing bowl, gently mix the peanuts and rice cereal. Next, pour the warm chocolate mixture over the cereal mix. Gently stir until the cereal mix is coated with the Nutella mix (some pieces will have more Nutella than others--that's okay. You just want to make sure that each piece is mostly coated).

In a large Ziplock bag, pour in the powdered sugar. Next, pour the cereal mix into the bag. Zip the bag closed (leaving in air) and shake the bag until the cereal is coated with powdered sugar. Once completely coated, pour into a bowl or air tight container, and enjoy!

You're welcome.
