Rhythm & Blueberries
Southern California is known for its sunshine, celebs, and beautiful beaches off the 101. We've seen the OC. We know the song. And even if we don't know Phantom Planet's "California," we at least know one song about California that supports the dreamlike visions we get when we think of California.
Well, I will tell you this. I'm a California girl born and raised and I've only seen two celebs in my day and live inland rather than at the beautiful beaches. However, I do see an abundance of sunshine. In the summer, perhaps a little too much sunshine. My adorable little suburban town can get as hot as 110 and that is just unacceptable in my book of comfort and to my pale-I-refuse-to-tan skin.
The beauty of this summer is that the heat has staved off apart from a few sordid days of fire like temps. And this wonderful morning, it was practically a Cinderella moment. The sun was streaming into my bedroom, the sky was clear blue, and the birds were singing. If only I had little mice friends who helped me get dressed then I would have been the brunette Cinderella minus the rest of the story.
Anyway, I turned on my made-to-look-vintage-but-is-actually-a-shoddy-piece-of-craftsmanship record player (the thing is barely a few months old and the motor tends to work only when it want to--sassy little piece of machinery), had a solo dance party to the Dirty Dancing soundtrack--SYLVIA!!!--, and decided today called for some finger lickin' good lemon blueberry scones.
Oh, it was going to be a good day. I could feel it.
If Ina Garten has taught me anything before I fall asleep to the sound of her soothing, flight-attendant -love-songs-on-the-coast voice, it's how to make a fine scone.

oh. oh. oh. They look so good. Fresh blueberries. Fresh lemon. Flaky, sweet goodness. I'm practically salivating and I already ate two.
I made some minor changes to the recipe, as in I used Ina's cranberry orange recipe which can be found on the Food Network's website (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/cranberry-orange-scones-recipe/index.html), and used blueberry and lemon instead of cranberry and orange.
Make. Eat. Eat More. Enjoy.
