Painting On Black Bubble Wrap

Did you have a lite-brite as a kid? I used to love playing with mine and I was excited to discover that they are still being made. I got a {affiliate link} lite-brite for my kids and they love creating glowing pieces of art by placing colored pegs into a lit board. We recently did an art project that reminded me a lot of lite-brite art. This art project was inspired when we received a package that contained black bubble wrap. We had never seen black bubble wrap before, and after a good popping session, we starting thinking of what we could make with it. My daughter made a Halloween bat and I thought it would be a fun medium to paint on. Since the black bubble wrap is so dark, I decided to use the brightest paint I could find.

You will need:

Black bubble wrap (there is a ton here that you can use for art and all your bubble wrapping needs)
Brightly colored acrylic paint
Paper towels

I gave my kids some bubble wrap, paints, and paper towels and let them go to town. They all decided to make pictures, though I think a dot design would look great on this as well.

We found that the paint appeared the brightest when just the tops of the bubbles were painted.

The bubble wrap made a great canvas. In between colors, my daughter would wipe her brush on a paper towel.

My kids draw rainbows ALL the time, so it wasn't surprising to see my daughter paint one on bubble wrap.

These paintings will take longer to dry than those made on paper. I just left them over night, and the next morning they were completely dry.

I just love how these turned out. It might be a little tricky to track down some black bubble wrap (I had no idea it even existed) so make sure to save any you might receive for future painting activities for kids.
