Fall Activity - Decorating A Fall Tree With Foam Leaves

I love looking out of my daughter's bedroom window and seeing all the trees outside ablaze in Fall colors. People think because we live in Northern California, that we miss out on the changing colors of Fall leaves. While we don't get the variety of colors I used to see in the Northeast, we do get our fair share. Since the kids and I love this time of year so much, we have done lots of fun leaf activities such as this Fall Tree with Suncatcher Leaves and Painting a Q-Tip Fall Tree. Today I am excited to share a simple Fall activity that little ones can do again and again - Decorating a Fall Tree with Foam Leaves.

You will need:

Brown tempera paint
Paint brush
Small cup with water
Foam leaves

You can find foam Fall leaves in the link above or at your local craft stores this time of year. Just make sure they are the kind with no adhesive on the back. If you prefer, you can purchase large foam sheets and cut out your own leaves.

Paint a tree onto the outside of a window. Don't worry if you are not an artist, clearly, I am not either. If you add a few squirts of dish soap to the brown paint it will make clean up of the tree easier.

Provide your child with a small cup filled with water, foam leaves and a brush. Children can brush the water on the back of the leaf to turn it into a magical sticking leaf.

She carefully worked to place leaves on all the branches she could find.

She was very proud of her finished tree. Ours leaves stayed up for a few days and then like a real tree, they started falling one by one. The great thing about this Fall activity is that it can be done again and again and when your kids are done you just hose down the outside of the window for easy clean up.
