Stuffed French Toast



All right, so Valentine's might be a teensy bit over, but this delish goodness is perfect any day of the week. Of course, the adorable little heart cutouts are perfect for the day of love, so bookmark this for next year, but for now, treat yourself to a cute meal, because I promise you, things taste better when they're cute.

That's not me talking. It's a scientific fact. (Movie anyone?)

Anyway, I hope all of you had a wonderful Valentine's Day filled with sharing love with those around you!




Recipe:

Disclaimer: Don't hate me, but this recipe is not exact. I generally just eyeball everything until I feel the consistency is right. Trust me, it is really hard to screw up french toast.

Bread (any kind is fine, but usually thick bread is best; clearly I did not have thick bread)
Eggs
Milk
Flour
Vanilla
Cinnamon
Berries
Powdered Sugar
Cream Cheese (any kind--I used Cinnamon Walnut)
Strawberry Jam

All right, let's get down to it:

Use a heart cookie cutter on the bread slices. In general, 1-2 hearts per slice.

**If using thick bread like Texas toast, stuff the french toast first (skip to the next paragraph).

For about 10 heart cutouts, I use 2 beaten eggs, a splash of milk, 1 tsp of vanilla, and 2 TBSP of flour. Whisk together until smooth. Dip bread (both sides) into mix, then place onto warmed skillet. Sprinkle cinnamon over the side that has yet to be cooked. Once the bottom side is golden brown, flip over and cook the other side.

Okay, now for the good part--stuffing it. Because my bread was far too thin to stuff, I instead spread the cream cheese and jam over each hot slice of of bread, and layered the french toast.

** If using a thicker bread, cut a slit into the top of the bread almost all the way to the bottom. Inside of the slit, scoop in cream cheese and jam. Dunk in wet mixture; cook.

Use whatever berries your heart desires, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and add some maple syrup for added decadence.
