How To Make Winter Magas - Besan Barfi For Winter

Recipe by Naiya Sheth: Winter is the coldest season of the year. It is time for building health for whole year. In earlier winter recipe we saw the recipe of Goondh pak - A Winter Special Recipe and now it's time for another healthy recipe for this winter. We made hot magas also during this season, but this recipe is different from the normal recipe of besan laddu or barfi as it contains lots of dry fruits and sooth and ganthola powder. It is advisable to have such winter recipes during whole winter season. And I think kids will also love to have this Magas - Besan Barfi in the morning or in lunch box during winter. And of course I would like to have it hot, as it is very easy to make it warm or hot in microwave.




Preparation time - 5 minutes
Cooking time - 15 to 20 minutes

Ingredients to make Magas - Besan Barfi for Winter:

3/4 to 1 cup ghee - clarified butter
1/4 cup urad flour
1/4 cup coarse gram flour
1/2 cup fine gram flour - besan
1 cup grounded misri sakar or sugar powder
1/4 cup finely chopped almonds
1/8 cup finely chopped walnuts
2 table spoon finely chopped pistachio
2 table spoon finely chopped cashews
2 table spoon ganthola powder
4 to 5 table spoon soonth powder - dry ginger powder
1 table spoon cardamom powder
Ghee for greasing

For garnishing: 

Finely chopped almonds
Finely chopped pistachio

Method to make Magas - Besan Barfi for Winter:

  • Heat ghee in a pan and add all three flours to it. Roast them at slow flame till light brown in color. Stir occasionally. 
  • When ready add chopped or roughly crushed dry fruits and mix well. 
  • Now add sooth powder, ganthola powder and again mix well.
  • Let it cool at room temperature. 
  • At last add cinnamon powder and misri powder to it and mix well. If it mixing is difficult make it warm at very slow flame.
  • Grease a plate and transfer above mixture to it. 
  • Garnish with chopped almonds and pistachio.
  • Cut with sharp knife in required size and shape. Even besan laddu also can be prepared at this stage.
  • Keep a side for minimum 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Remove carefully and store in air tight container. 
  • The self life of this Magas - Besan Barfi for Winter is about 20 to 25 days.
  • It is preferable to have a piece of this in the morning during winter.
  • For hot preparation reheat small portion of this recipe in microwave and enjoy hot.
