Clothing Organization Tips
I have been feeling overwhelmed lately by clutter and just the amount of stuff we have. Can you relate? It seems like ever since having kids our "stuff" has exploded. Add to that the fact that we have been adding things without purging anything and you have a full house and garage. This has made me unnecessarily stressed, and if I am being honest, cranky. So in an effort to reduce the clutter and crankiness I have started a full house clean up and reorganization. I have started with my clothing, and the results have been shocking. These Clothing Organization Tips can work for you too! A big thank you to the Visa Clear Prepaid aktivitas and the Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card who are sponsoring this conversation on Clothing Organization Tips.

Get Good Advice
For years I have tried to keep my closet under control. After all my failed attempts I would end up feeling bad about myself and frustrated with the mess I still had on my hands. So I decided to pick up a few books on the subject of organizing and those have been a great help to me. If other people have spent years studying and working on a subject, take their advice. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. There are hundreds of books on the subject of organizing, all promising an uncluttered future. To keep myself from buying too many (which would ironically add to my clutter) I purchased my books (and some organizing supplies) using a Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card, part of the Visa Clear Prepaid program. Since I already loaded the card up with cash, I could only spend a certain amount. Each card that’s part of the Visa Clear Prepaid aktivitas has a clearly-defined fee structure, so you understand when you'll pay a fee and when you won’t. The Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card is all about easy-to-understand fees.
Know What You Have
Have you ever bought an item of clothing only to realize later on that you already own it? Why does that happen? Oftentimes, it is because we have so many items of clothing that we forget we own them. So in order to get clothes organized you need to see what you have. I read in a few organizing books to get all my clothing together in one place. So I emptied out my drawers and closet and made piles according to the type of clothing. I was so surprised to discover that I had duplicate items and just way too much stuff in general.
Pare Down Your Clothing
If you have items that don't fit, get rid of them. I have been saving so many items for years waiting to get back to my pre-baby weight. My "baby" is now 5 years old and many of these clothes are now out of style. Besides, I have no idea if I will ever fit in those clothes again, yet they have moved with me to two houses and taken up residence here for way too long. I have also kept clothes that are worn and tattered. Mostly because I am too frugal to throw stuff away. Then there were the clothing items I kept but never wore because I didn't like how they looked anymore. All of these items were taking up residence in my closet. When I was done discard1ng clothes I had this big pile to donate.
Use Your Drawers
From my organizing books I learned that folded clothes take up less space than hanging clothes. Folding clothes and storing them in a dresser are especially important if you have small closet like I do. I used to hang everything and my closet was so packed I could barely move the clothes. I had dresser drawers sitting empty because I thought hanging things was a lot easier and quicker than folding. But the reverse is actually true. Folding takes no more time and allows you to store much more items than hanging would. The only items I currently hang up are coats and jackets, dress pants, dress shirts (blouses), skirts and dresses. Everything else goes in drawers. Fold items so they make a rectangle shape and store standing in your drawer. Make sure they are folded small enough so that they can fit comfortably when the drawer is closed.
Sort Items by Type
Keep all of your jeans in one drawer. If you have workout clothes/lounge wear, those can be stored together in a drawer. All pajamas go in one drawer. Shirts and tanks get their own drawer. Within each drawer you can sort further. In my jeans drawer I have a section for skinny jeans, capris and bootleg jeans. In the shirt drawer I have separate sections for tanks, camis, short and long sleeved shirts.
If you are ready to purchase some organizing books or pick up some organizing supplies, you can use a prepaid card like I did. All you need to do is go to Visa.com/visaclearprepaid and find the best prepaid card for you. There you will find many local retailers that offer the card or find out how to get the card online. The cards are easy to obtain and load. In my area, the Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card was readily available. I had $150 to pay for the card fee and load my card. With a purchase fee of $2.95, that left me with $147.05 on the card for organizing books, supplies and whatever else I needed.
When you use a card like the Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card, you can feel confident since it meets the Visa Clear Prepaid aktivitas standards. This means the card provides you with protection and transparency. You'll know what you’re spending (including on fees) and this makes it easier to stick to a monthly budget. With the Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card, one monthly fee plan covers your day-to-day activities such as purchases, point-of-sale cash back and in-network ATM withdrawals. Since there is less confusion around fees, the card can help you make time for the things that matter most.
After purchasing the card, register it online and then you are ready to go! Cards can be reloaded in many ways. You can do so via direct deposit, at the store, with a check at Walmart, by transferring money from a bank account, or from another Green Dot card - some for a small fee. You can use your card anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, which gives you great flexibility. You even will have the ability to withdraw money for free at in-network MoneyPass ATMs. Prepaid cards are not intended to be a replacement for other forms of payment, including cash, but they are a great alternative.
The Visa Clear Prepaid aktivitas provides you with strong consumer protections including:
• Easy to understand fee plans
• No overdrafts permitted so you can’t incur fees or spend more money than you have
• Deposit or share insurance to protect your funds, e.g. FDIC/NCUSIF

[1] Visa's Zero Liability Policy covers U.S.-issued cards and does not apply to certain commercial card transactions, or any transactions not processed by Visa.
