Given the heritage together with mid-century styling of the setting I wanted to maintain equally much of the master copy integrity equally possible so decided on a sympathetic restoration rather than a full-blown renovation.
The tabular array top was completely stripped, sanded thus sealed amongst several coats of danish oil. The timber is actually quite beautiful, I want I knew what it was. Pecan, maple or walnut perhaps?
The base of the legs were quite damaged (and I wasn't loving their bulbous shape) so as a solution I affixed around vintage brass loving cup castors for a to a greater extent than tapered trouble - the wheels also come upward inwards handy for rolling the tabular array open when adding or removing leaves.
To adjust the castors I used the within dimensions of the loving cup equally a guide thus trimmed downward each pes amongst a h4ck saw until it neatly gibe inside.
The chair frames were inwards peachy master copy status thus to retain the natural grapheme of the timber I exactly nourished them all using raw linseed petroleum tinted amongst a dash of teak stain.
The seats were originally upholstered inwards a 'lovely' mustard golden corduroy - well, I'm certain it was lovely at some fourth dimension - which needed replacing so I unscrewed all of the seats from the frames thus prized off the staples affixing the master copy fabric. Influenza A virus subtype H5N1 fresh layer of wadding was thus layed over the existing foam (which was all the same inwards peachy nic) then my chosen cloth was positioned over that - I went amongst a rattling neutral mini houndstooth for a classic finish.
