✔ Only Accept Plastic Lace Together With A Brake Fluid Drum!

I was visiting my parents late when I happened to glance over as well as consider this...

...beside their garage.
Hmmm, a cruddy one-time brake fluid drum, how fascinating, right? Well, yes, I mean, it is cruddy as well as one-time as well as whilst I had probably looked at it a hundred times earlier for some argue that day I genuinely saw it for the get-go time.
You see, my nursery lamp (shown hither temporarily sitting on picnic baskets)...

...is also tall for a regular side tabular array all the same also short to stand upwardly on the flooring and I figure my encephalon was subconsciously scouring for a solution when the proportions of the drum jumped upwardly as well as slapped me foursquare across the face.
I took some quick measurements as well as certain enough, proportions...tick! Appearance...ummm, non hence tick. Luckily that is easily fixed!
The fact it was tin gave me some immediate inspiration so I followed my instinct as well as began an experiment to create a pressed metallic look.
Firstly, I gathered my supplies:

One meter of plastic tabular array runner lace (if you're inwards Commonwealth of Australia I got mine from Spotlight though it should be readily available from well-nigh haberdashery stores as well as is super cheap).

A tin plow over notice of gloss enamel spraypaint (I chose ivory for a vintage cream look).

Strong arts and crafts mucilage (I used PVA).

Something to purpose as feet (I decided on these vintage castors I already had).

And the process:
To laid out with, I made certain the drum was empty as well as gave it a thorough all-over clean. Next, I turned it upside downward because I wanted the bottom to locomote yesteryear the top as well as played approximately alongside the positioning of the plastic lace. Because the lace inwards its master copy cast was also broad for the drum I created one novel decorative border at the correct width yesteryear trimming approximately the pattern inwards the existing blueprint alongside scissors.

Next, I wrapped it approximately the drum to locomote out where it would encounter as well as trimmed it hence it would neatly overlap precisely a little. To adhere it to the drum I applied a reasonably generous total of glue all over the drum's sides (using a pigment brush) hence I rolled my lace into position. I applied some additional mucilage to the ends to ensure they were good bonded to the drum.

I also added lace to the top of the drum (to enshroud a let out which was pressed into the tin. I would belike convey left it patently otherwise).

In the higher upwardly photograph yous tin plow over notice consider a faint outline where at that spot was a slightly raised sphere though it's far less obvious inwards person.

Once the mucilage was thoroughly dry out and I was satisfied the lace was good adhered I gave the entire drum 3 coats of gloss enamel spray paint.
This was the 2d of truth - it was either gonna await okay or similar someone had precisely stuck some plastic lace to a crappy one-time tin drum....
Well, whilst beauty is subjective I gotta tell that to me it genuinely looked kinda cool!

Once the pigment dried I flipped it over as well as only liquid-nailed on my castor wheels.

This projection was purely experimental hence I was pretty pleasantly pleased alongside the result.
Plastic lace as well as a brake fluid drum hey? Who woulda thought....
